The SBCU Program evolved from a desire to provide the best experience to riders of Specialized bicycles and equipment. We believe that strengthening our partnership with the best dealers through product, bike fit, and service training is the most effective way to grow our cycling community and businesses.
Specialized has invested considerable resources in the SBCU program to provide dealers with the most effective and relevant training available. Whether on-line through the SBCU websites, attending a clinic from a travelling SBCU professor, or getting a chance to join us at our many training facilities throughout the world, we are ready to help you improve customer service and make more sales. We strive to be your best option for training key employees.
SBCU Online Training
SBCU Online is a training resource that is available to all retail employees working in Specialized Independent Bike Shops. SBCU Online is perfect for brushing up your knowledge or for anyone who may not be able to attend courses at our SBCU campus. This focused, fast, and fun training can quickly get sales people up to speed on the most important products and technologies that your customers are asking about.
After participating in the online training and passing the tests, an employee will:
- Have a basic understanding of our Brand Vision and Experience Philosophy
- Be better equipped to recommend the proper bikes and equipment for the experience a customer desires
- Understand and execute a basic sales process
- Dedicating a small amount of time to completing this training will immediately improve your staff's effectiveness on the sales floor.
- Be able to articulate the underlying technologies in all major bike categories

Classes at our many training facilities around the world are the pinnacle of the SBCU experience and offer a unique opportunity to see our company first hand. Attendees can select from courses that focus on product and technology, bike fitting, merchandising, service, or management. During each class, students have a chance to ride a wide selection of the bikes they are expected to sell, so they can their first hand experiences to get their customers excited. They will come back to the shop with a new level of enthusiasm for their job and the tools to confidently work with any rider that walks through your door.

SBCU classes are offered weekly at our Morgan Hill, CA training facility from October to April. But all classes are offered every week, so plan your yearly training schedule carefully. The SBCU staff is available year around to help you plan your company's training regimen, so feel free to call and or email for assistance.
- Be patient. SBCU Online can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours.
- Check back. We’re updating the site all the time. Stay current on your knowledge and check back regularly.
- It's all or nothing. Remember, you have to get 100% correct on each test in order to pass.Check your answers and we'll tell you which ones you've missed.
- Take time to watch the title video and read the text on the front page. Most of the answers you're looking for will be in one of these areas.
- There is no penalty for guessing so never leave a question blank.
- Think about how this knowledge will apply. As you're going through the website, ask yourself how you can use this information in your shop.
- Look for the kangaroo.If you find the kangaroo in the videos, you win a prize. The prize of knowing you found the kangaroo.
- Keep it simple. The simplest solution is often the correct one.
- Come back. If you're struggling on a question, leave it and come back. Sometimes other questions will give you insight to the answer you're looking for.
- Caffeinate. The effects of caffeine on the human body include an increase in heart rate and circulation, increased concentration and, generally, more energy. All great things for taking a test! We recommend a macchiato (A real macchiato, not that thing they serve at Starbucks).
